North Plainfield Recycling Delays
Recycling collections in North Plainfield will continue Saturday, Dec. 30, and Tuesday, Jan. 2 if necessary. Due to the Christmas holiday and a high volume of recyclables, recycling collections in parts of North Plainfield have been delayed. Crews will be working Saturday, Dec. 30, to continue pickups but may not finish by the end of the day. Collections will resume the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 2. The Somerset County Recycling Division thanks residents for their patience and understanding.
The Borough tax office will be open till 4:30 today, December 29th.
Attention North Plainfield Residents: With regard to the Governor's recent Executive Order, residents interested in prepaying their property taxes for 2018 can still do so. There is a drop box located in the lobby of the Borough Hall building where you can leave payments through December 31st. Payments via mail must be postmarked December 31st. The Borough tax office will be open till 4:30 today, December 29th. Thank you and Happy New Year!
Happy Holidays North Plainfield!
Borough hall will be closed December 25 and 26, 2017 and January 1, 2018. Alternate Side Parking Regulations suspended will also be suspended on these days.
Best Holiday Decorated Home Contest
The Department of Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a town-wide Holiday Decorations Contest for all North Plainfield residents (see registration requirements below). Judging will take place from Wednesday, 12/20 to Friday, 12/22.
Christmas Tree Disposal
A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR REGARDING DISPOSAL OF LIVE CHRISTMAS TREES - Beginning Tuesday, January 2nd, the Department of Public Works will be picking up your discarded trees at the curb through the end of January. PLEASE NOTE: All ornaments, lights, tinsel, and any other decorations must be removed from the trees prior to placing them at the curb. DO NOT place your tree in a bag. Bagged trees will not be picked up. Thank you for your cooperation!

Due to the unusually late leaf fall this season, our DPW will be continuing leaf pickup throughout the entire Borough, through the end of the year. There will be no set schedule for these additional pickups, but rest assured the leaves will be removed in due course.
Homestead Benefit Deadline
Just a friendly reminder that the due date for the 2015 Homestead Benefit is November 30, 2017. We encourage anyone who has not yet filed their application to please do so ASAP. Yard Waste Collection Service
Recently we have been unable to collect yard waste from a number of residents because the material left out for collection was mixed together. The North Plainfield Department of Public Works cannot accept mixed material when picking up grass - grass pick up can only contain grass. Brush, branches, and leaves may not be included. Our Transfer Station has been informed by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection not to accept our trucks if they contain mixed material. Please separate grass and non-grass material from your containers and we will pick it up at the next scheduled pick up. Please be advised that grass and brush are picked up on separate days as indicated in the Borough Collection Calendar which is available at Borough Hall, the Library and the Vermeule Center, as well as the Borough Website We apologize for any inconvenience. Memorial Day events in North Plainfield for May 29th will commence at 9:00am At the Vermeule Cemetery. The Fire Bell Ceremony at Lincoln Place and Somerset Street is at 9:30am, the Brook Avenue Cemetery Ceremony is at 10:00am. The World War II Monument Ceremony at Memorial Library takes place at 10:30am. The 11:00am exercises will be in Memorial park at Willow and Myrtle Avenues. Participants will include Storr Richie Post 506, VFW; Ball Kirch Post 265, American Legion; The School Community; Girl and Boy Scouts and civic organizations. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. In the event of rain, activities will be cancelled.

Winter Storm Local Update
This is Mayor Michael Giordano with a message for North Plainfield Residents concerning the upcoming winter storm. The latest National Weather Service forecast is predicting 18-24 inches of snow and winds up to 40 MPH. This will be a dangerous and crippling snowstorm. Your cooperation is essential to ensure safety for yourself, your family and our emergency service providers. Today is the time to prepare for the storm:
The Borough is making emergency preparations as follows:
- Make sure you have enough food, clothing and shelter.
- Address the needs of elderly, disabled, and underage family members, neighbors and friends.
- Fill up your car's gas tank
- Secure an off street location to park your car.
- Charge your cell phones.
- Make note of emergency telephone numbers.
- Borough Hall will be closed on Tuesday and have a 10:00 AM opening on Wednesday (this is subject to change based on conditions)
- All parked vehicles are to be off the streets by midnight tonight and remain off the streets until the after the storm ends and the streets are plowed.
- Street Cleaning regulations are being suspended through Friday.
- All Borough activities and programs are cancelled Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Do not shovel snow into the streets.
- Dig out fire hydrants.
- Report downed wires to the North Plainfield Police Department - 908-769-297, or to PSE&G - 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).
- For Emergencies call 9-1-1.
- All non-emergency vehicles are to remain off the roads through the duration of the storm.
- Remove all snow and ice from your vehicle when able to drive.

Our St. Baldrick's event is scheduled for March 18th at 1pm in fire headquarters. 14th Annual event hosted by the North Plainfield Firefighters benefitting the St. Baldrick's Foundation Volunteer Shavee's go bald in support of kids who lose their hair to cancer treatments Over $30,000 raised this year so far; over $1 million raised in North Plainfield since 2004. All proceeds benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation mission to conquer kids cancers. Registration opens at noon, event begins at 1pm Event is open to the public and family friendly Special Guest speakers & honored kids Crayon collection; bring an 8 pack of clean Crayola crayons to the event in honor of Taylor "Iron Man" Barta who passed away last year, one day after our event.
