Hydrant Flush

FIRE HYDRANTS WILL BE OPENED TO FLUSH SEDIMENTS FROM PIPES.  RESIDENTS MAY NOTICE A DROP IN WATER PRESSURE OR DISCOLORED WATER.  DRAW WATER FOR COOKING PRIOR TO FLUSHING AND STORE A LARGE BOTTLE IN REFRIGERATOR FOR DRINKING. IF YOUR WATER IS DISCOLORED, LET IT RUN UNTIL IT IS CLEAR.  ALSO BE SURE YOUR WATER IS CLEAR BEFORE RUNNING YOUR CLOTHES OR DISHWASHER.  SHOULD YOUR LAUNDRY BECOME STAINED, REWASH IT WITH DETERGENT AND RUST REMOVER BEFORE DRYING. PLAINFIELD EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ADVISE THAT IF YOUR WATER PRESSURE DECREASES DURING FLUSHING,  CHECK YOUR FAUCET SCREENS FOR ACCUMULATED SEDIMENT.  IF SLIGHT DISCOLORATION LINGERS FOR A FEW HOURS, IT ONLY AFFECTS THE WATER’S APPEARANCE AND NOT WATER QUALITY.     FOR ANY CONCERNS REGARDING YOUR WATER SERVICE, PLEASE CALL NEW JERSEY AMERICAN WATER AT 1-800-272-1325.
