A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR REGARDING DISPOSAL OF LIVE CHRISTMAS TREES - Beginning Monday, January 4th, the Department of Public Works will be picking up your discarded trees at the curb through the end of January.PLEASE NOTE: All ornaments, lights, tinsel, and any other decorations must be removed from the trees prior to placing them at the curb. DO NOT place your tree in a bag. Bagged trees will not be picked up. Thank you for your cooperation!
Recycling Collection Change
Somerset County has advised of a change in the recycling pick up date for North Plainfield. Customarily, County Recycling Collection occurs on alternate Fridays in North Plainfield. The next recycling date will now be Monday, January 4th! Please mark your calendars and do not leave your recycling out at the curb over the weekend. Thank you for your cooperation. DELAYS EXPECTED! PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY!On or about Thursday, November 5th Road Construction will begin on Somerset Street. The Contractor plans to mobilize and begin removing the concrete crosswalks between Park Place and Chatham Street. This will take a few days to complete and they will immediately follow up with the road milling between Grandview Avenue and Chatham Street. Road Paving will follow. Police will be utilized for traffic control/detours.

A Message from the Mayor Regarding 4th of July Events
Borough Offices will be closed Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day. Street sweeping parking regulations will not be enforced on Friday, July 3rd. All other parking regulations will remain in effect. The County recycling pickups in North Plainfield will be moved to Monday, July 6th. The next monthly Saturday drop-off at the County will be July 11th (second Saturday due to the holiday). The Borough's Annual "Independence Day Parade" will take place on Saturday, July 4th at 10:00 am! The Parade will begin at Wilson Avenue ~ turns left onto Greenbrook Road heading East ~ turning right onto Somerset Street ~ continuing along Somerset Street ~ turning right onto Craig Place heading West - turning right onto Grove Street and ending at Stony Brook Field on Greenbrook Road. Once this work is complete the roadway will be milled and resurfaced. The contractor will notify certain sections of homes when they will be working in your general area, as on street parking access will be limited during those times. This is Mayor Michael Giordano with a message for North Plainfield Residents for a winter weather alert in anticipation of the Snowstorm. Street sweeping parking regulations will not be enforced beginning Tuesday, January 27, 2015 through Thursday, January 29, 2015. All other parking regulations will remain in effect. All meetings and activities scheduled at Borough Hall and the Vermeule Community Center will be cancelled for Monday, January 26th and Tuesday, January 27th, this includes tonight's Council Meeting. Please be assured that our public works department will be out in force doing their part to open our streets in a timely manner and our police/fire/ems services will remain on full time duty. For public safety purposes, we ask that all residents remove their vehicles from roadways during and immediately following the storm. Do not shovel snow into public roadways and do not bury fire hydrants. Report downed Wires or Power Outages to the non-emergency number for the North Plainfield Police Department (908) 769-2937, or call 911 for emergencies. Please drive safely if you must venture out on the roads and be sure to remove all ice and snow from your vehicle.
