Government Energy Aggregation Program

GOVERNMENT ENERGY AGGREGATION PROGRAM - WORKING TO LOWER YOUR ENERGY BILL

The Borough of North Plainfield passed an ordinance, which became effective on October 12, 2014 to establish the North Plainfield Energy Community Choice Program. This program is a Government-Private energy aggregation program that will permit the municipality to aggregate residential and non-residential electric consumers in North Plainfield for the purpose of purchasing electricity at lower rates than currently available from the utility company (PSE&G). By combining the electric requirements of the residential, industrial, commercial and public entity accounts, the program can purchase energy from Third Party Electricity Suppliers at prices lower than the average PSE&G price, with the possibility of added benefits such as higher renewable energy content. The program is only for the electric supply portion of your electric service.

Environmental Resource Inventory

Thanks to a matching funds grant from the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (NJEC) and the administration of the Borough of North Plainfield, the North Plainfield Environmental Commission (NPEC) was able to realize the completion of an Environmental Resource Inventory (ERI) for the Borough. This project was begun over 35 years ago, and it is scheduled to go live at a public meeting to be held in the Vermeule Mansion on Monday, March 3, 2014, at 7:00 PM. The rollout was postponed because of bad weather in February, which fortuitously allowed additional time to finalize the document.

The ERI is a joint venture of the NPEC, the North Plainfield Green Team and the Shade Tree Advisory Board. It was prepared under the sponsorship of the Borough Planning Board and will be incorporated into the Borough Master Plan as a resource for the entire town. The text and mapping were prepared by Mr. Harry Strano, of Amy S. Green Associates of Flemington, our environmental contractor. Mr. Strano will be present at the meeting, where the ERI will be presented to the public. All interested citizens are encouraged to attend, but the special target audiences include the North Plainfield Memorial Library, our schools, our historical societies (Vermeule and Washington Park), our seniors with long memories, our parent teacher organizations, and our Borough officials.

The ERI is over 160 pages long and is about 75 megabytes in *.pdf format. The electronic file is indexed so that external links to updated information and references are available when connected to the Internet. The ERI will be available for download onto a CD or jump drive from the Borough website. A limited number of hard copies will be housed in Borough Hall and the North Plainfield Memorial Library. The ERI covers the gamut of environmental issues of interest to planners, students, historians and the general public. The topics include History, Climatology, Air Quality, Geology, Soil, Water Resources, Wetlands, Land Use, and Wildlife. Its visuals include many maps and photos illuminating the text.

The ERI is intended to be a living document, and it will be a platform which can be revised many times over the years as new and updated information is received. This project was a labor of love by all its preparers and as a gift to the people of North Plainfield. Come out and see your Environmental Resource Inventory on March 3.

For more information, leave a message at North Plainfield Borough Hall, and someone from the Environmental Commission will get back to you.
