Freeholders to Place Wreath at 9/11 Memorial

SOMERVILLE – Members of the Somerset County Board of Freeholders, led by Freeholder Director Patrick Scaglione, will place a wreath at the county’s 9/11 memorial at the corner of Main and Bridge streets on Thursday, Sept. 11.  The public is welcome to attend.

At 8:46 a.m. – the time when the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center 13 years ago – the ceremony will begin with a brief tolling of the bell at the top of the nearby historic courthouse.  The Freeholders will read the names of the 39 Somerset County residents killed in the attacks.

The placement of the wreath will be followed by a moment of silence and another brief bell-tolling to conclude the ceremony.

“It was a day that changed America . A day we will never forget,” said Freeholder Director Scaglione. “We gather each year on September 11th to remember, honor and pay our respects to the Somerset County residents who perished that day. We also remember the other victims who died at the World Trade Center , at the Pentagon and on Flight 93 in Somerset County , Pennsylvania .”

Flags at county facilities will be flown at half-staff in accordance with the congressional mandate passed in December 2001.

A list of municipal 9/11 ceremonies in Somerset County is posted on the county website at www.co.somerset.nj.us/spotlight.html.
