North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti announced the arrest of two individuals for possession of marijuana at 22 Manning Avenue on the evening of August 8.
As a result of tips forwarded to the Police Department, the department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force initiated an investigation. Last night it culminated when the Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force and members of the North Plainfield Police Department executed a search warrant at 22 Manning Avenue. Arrested were Roger Mejia, (21 years of age), and Daniel Kayee, (25 years of age); both of North Plainfield. Both were charged with disorderly person possession of CDS paraphernalia and disorderly person possession of under 50 grams of marijuana.
Chief Parenti also indicated that as a result of other tips received by the Police Department, another investigation was initiated by local police and the SCPO Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force in July. That investigation culminated on July 15, when the SCPO Task Force executed a search warrant at 178 Duer Street. Recovered pursuant to the search warrant were 16 grams of marijuana, a quantity of Xanax pills and CDS paraphernalia. Jamael Davis, (35 years of age and of North Plainfield), was arrested and charged with third degree possession of CDS; disorderly person possession of marijuana and CDS paraphernalia.
Chief Parenti said: “These investigations and arrests validate the police-community partnership, and the results local police departments can achieve when working in tandem with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force”. Chief Parenti thanked the tipsters and urged all residents to contact the North Plainfield Police Department at 908 769 2937 or the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Tips Line at 1 888 577 TIPS(8477) with any tips on drug related activity or other crime in the borough.
