STEP - Summer Teen Evening Program

North Plainfield Police Department

Press Release

Chief William Parenti

Press Release: June 11, 2012

North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti is pleased to announce that the Borough’s STEP, (Summer Teen Evening Program), is set to begin on Tuesday, June 26, at the North Plainfield Middle School gymnasium at 34 Wilson Avenue.   The program will run from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  The program allows borough youth to gather in a safe and secure environment for pickup basketball games, soccer, and conversation.  Refreshments are also provided.

Funding for the program is provided by the Municipal Alliance and the Youth Services Commission.  Volunteers from these organizations, and personnel from the Board of Education and the Police Department are always present.

This year will be the program’s 13th year in operation and is considered a huge success.  “We usually have about 50 youth attend but some nights we have had as many as 75, it’s a great example of community organizations and the Borough’s youth coming together”, Chief Parenti said.

The program will run every Tuesday and Thursday, from June 26 to August 16, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  The program culminates on the last night,  August 16, which will be a barbecue style picnic.  All borough teens are welcome to attend.
