| Please be advised that the solar seminar announced for the December 9, 2010 Economic Development Committee has been postponed; representatives of PETRA SOLAR have advised that a new date for the seminar will shortly be established and announced.
Despite the postponement of the seminar, the Economic Development Committee will convene their scheduled meeting on the evening of December 9th in the Community Center, 614 Greenbrook Road, North Plainfield at 7:30 p.m. All are invited to attend.
It is anticipated that the solar seminar’s new date will be announced before year’s end.

| Somerset County Police Chiefs Association President William G. Parenti announced receiving a $20 thousand grant award from Crime Stoppers of Somerset County. Chief Parenti said the grant would provide funding to purchase a variety of specialized equipment for County Law Enforcement Teams. The grant will provide funding for the purchase of an equipment decontamination system for use by all of the County Tactical Teams, upgrades to a “throw phone” for the County Crisis Negotiation Team, new uniforms for the SWAT team and for new masks and underwater photography equipment for the Dive Team. “This specialized equipment will improve the capability and effectiveness of the County Tactical Teams,” Chief Parenti said. ...read more

| North Plainfield will celebrate its 125th birthday by honoring its former mayors in its annual Independence Day Parade. The parade, which begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 5th at the high school and runs west down Greenbrook Road to the community center, will feature Grand Marshals Steve Novak Jr., the Mayor from 1975 to 1988, Frank McArdle (1989-1992), Michael Haggerty (1993-1996) and Janice Allen (1997-2008).
The parade, now the largest in Central Jersey , will feature 40 floats, bands and marchers. The day's festivities will conclude with the area's biggest fireworks display. Sponsored by VIP Honda of North Plainfield, the fireworks will take place at West End school on Greenbrook Road , starting at 7:30 with a performance by Hit and Run. The fireworks are free of charge, however, donations are welcome to help offset some of the costs.
So, come on out and enjoy a fun-filled day and night with your friends and neighbors.

| We have just received word that our Saturday music schedule at the North Plainfield Street Fair will include internationally known charttopping band, THE SMITHEREENS as the closing act at or about 3:00 p.m. Already on the bill are North Plainfield’s own Milan, the Watchung Ridge Bluegrass Band as well as a local Hip-Hop band and a Gospel Choir – a little something for everybody – admission is free, as always, and the food concessions are better’n’ever – DON’T MISS THE CHILI COOKOFF! - all kinds of hometown fun for one and all!

| The North Plainfield Lions Club will be holding its annual Chili Cook Off on Saturday June 12th. It is again being held at the North Plainfield Street Fair. Competition will be People’s Choice-style and no preparation need be done on-site.
The event will be a great way to spend the day and have the opportunity to sample the chili and vote for your favorite. As always, the atmosphere will be one of spirited, but fun competition with a backdrop of some terrific food. The culinary contest, along with the Street Fair, is fun for all ages. Contestants will have the opportunity to prepare/bring their choice of chili; including red chili, chili verdi and vegetarian chili, etc, etc. There are trophies and cash prizes and booth decoration will also be judged! The Lions are looking for additional competitors, ranging from individuals to civic, scout and service groups and also police and fire departments. Those interested can obtain an entrance form and rules by contacting the chairman (Frank Stabile) at: 908-754-2754. The proceeds from the Cook Off go to support the charitable endeavors of the North Plainfield Lions. These include scholarships and programs which are geared towards helping those with severe vision and hearing handicaps.
