Chief William G. Parenti announced that a Borough’s Police Department was the recipient of a new set of wheels.  For the second time the Police Department was selected to receive a new Cannondale bicycle.  The first grant award was in June of 1999.  The bicycle will be used for the department's community policing and bike patrol programs.  The bicycle unit, is comprised of Detectives Alex Kuga and Eric Fowler and has been in existence for about a 17 years.  The officers mainly patrol the businesses, schools and parks with the bicycle’s.

The bike patrol is a big asset for community policing because the officers are available to the public. They are able to interact with the community, and are great at the fairs, and other community events.   I believe the bike officers are more approachable by the public, and the community learns the officer’s by name.  We receive a lot of positive feedback from our residents.  I feel most of our officers are friendly and approachable, the difference is the officer riding in the patrol car may exchange wave’s, while the bike officer is often stopped by people young and old with a question or comment about the bike chief Parenti said.
