Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off on Sept. 12 |

Branchburg Public Works Garage BRANCHBURG – If you are cleaning your garage, shed or other storage areas this year, you can dispose of hazardous items at the next Somerset County Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day Saturday, Sept. 12. Hazardous items can be dropped off at the Branchburg Township Public Works Garage, located at 34 Kenbury Rd., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday hazardous waste drop-off events offer a convenient way for residents and farmers to dispose of household chemicals and pesticides that cannot be thrown out with regular trash. The program is free to county residents. No registration is necessary, but proof of residency is required. Tires and used consumer electronics - computers and televisions - will not be accepted as part of the Household Hazardous Waste program, but are collected as part of the First Saturday of the Month drop-off program from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Somerset County Recycling Center, located at 40 Polhemus Lane in Bridgewater. In September, the First Saturday of the Month drop-off also will be held Sept. 12. The last Household Hazardous Waste drop-off day of the year will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, at South County Public Works Garage in Hillsborough. In August, 377 residents disposed of approximately 32,310 pounds of potentially hazardous materials. The county also collected 60 propane tanks, 110 gallons of used motor oil, 110 gallons of antifreeze, 3,749 pounds of dry-cell batteries and 65 wet-cell batteries for proper disposal. Residents wishing to program their GPS navigation systems or use an online search for directions to the Branchburg Township Public Works Garage should enter 34 Kenbury Rd., Branchburg, NJ 08876 as the street address.
