North Plainfield Police Department Press Release Chief William Parenti September 1, 2008 North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti announced the arrest of a borough resident for sexual assault Monday afternoon, September 1, 2008. The North Plainfield Police Department received a call from the Corning, New York Police Department alerting borough police that a 14 year old female, reported missing to the Corning NY Police Department, might be at an apartment in North Plainfield. Police units were dispatched to an apartment in the Malcolm Gardens complex, 450 Little Place. Upon arrival they were able to locate the missing teen, who was unharmed, and take her into custody. Contact was also made with the resident, Reginald V. Worthy Jr, 36 years of age. He cooperated with the police as to how the teen ended up at his residence. After further investigation, Worthy was charged with one count of second degree aggravated sexual assault, through the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. Worthy was remanded to the Somerset County Jail in lieu of $200,000.00 cash bail only, set by Superior Court Judge Dilts. Note: We are required by the Rules of Court to include herein a statement explaining that the charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
