November 4th Attempted Burglary

North Plainfield Police Department

Chief William Parenti

November 4, 2008

North Plainfield Police Chief William G. Parenti announced the arrest of two individuals for what police believe to have been an attempted burglary.  Shortly before 12:30 pm, Tuesday, November 4, the Police Department received a call from a borough resident that had observed two subjects in the back yard of 30 Verdon Street. The caller, an area resident, reported the subjects were carrying garden rakes and entered the rear fenced in yard of 30 Verdon Street.  The caller indicated to police that he observed them forcing entry into the residence.

Multiple police units quickly responded establishing a secure perimeter around the house.   Police officers then entered the house and found two juveniles, (one male, a Plainfield resident, and one female a North Plainfield resident), secreting themselves in the basement of the residence.  The youths were taken into custody without incident.  Police determined that a rock was used to smash a rear door window to gain access to the interior doorknob and enter the residence.

The youths were transported to Police HQs for further investigation.  Upon completion the matter will be forwarded to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office for disposition of applicable charges.

Chief Parenti, thanks the community policing effort put forth by an alert resident.  Because of his effort police officers David Dzibela, Joseph Mazza, Michael Weber, and Sergeant William Speck were able to work in concert to apprehend the law breakers.

Note:  We are required by the Rules of Court to include herein a statement explaining that the charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
