January 28, 2007

North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti and Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne J. Forrest announced the details of a fatal motor vehicle accident in North Plainfield early Sunday morning.  The North Plainfield Police Department responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Watchung Avenue and Route 22 East at 1:23 am Sunday morning.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene through paramedics from Muhlenberg Medical Center.  Other agencies that responded included the North Plainfield Rescue Squad, the Department of Transportation, (for traffic control), and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Analysis and Reconstruction team.  The investigation was conducted by the North Plainfield Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

At this time the investigation indicates the deceased, identified as Francisco Osorio, 39 years of age, of North Plainfield stepped out into Route 22 at Watchung Ave.  He was attempting to cross north bound.  Osorio is believed to have no family in the United States. The operator of the motor vehicle, Rosemary Dzell, 52 years of age, of Union, New Jersey, was unable to avoid a collision.  She was returning home from a family member’s residence and has not been charged with any violations.

The operator indicated that another vehicle, a dark colored large car or SUV might also have struck the pedestrian after the initial vehicle.  Anyone with any information on that is urged to call the North Plainfield Police Department at 908 769 2937 or the Somerset County Prosecutor’s tips line at 1 888 527 TIPS.
