North Plainfield Police Department Chief William G. Parenti December 15, 2006 Mayor Janice G. Allen and Police Chief William G. Parenti announced today the North Plainfield Police Department has been Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA.) “We are very proud of our Police Department and that North Plainfield has became the first Police Department in Somerset County and one of only sixteen in the State to receive this coveted recognition,” Mayor Allen said. The Accreditation demonstrates the professional achievements of the men and women of the Department. From the moment, I became Chief of Police my top priority was to provide equal opportunity policing for everyone that lives, works or passes through North Plainf ield. By this, I mean Law Enforcement Services will be fair, honest, and without bias. The recognition we received is a badge that further demonstrates our dedication to professional excellence and priorities Chief Parenti said. To receive accreditation, the North Plainfield Police Department was required to comply with 146 standards set forth by the Commission. These standards touch on every facet of the Department from racial profiling, administrative, and operational services to promotions, use of force and pursuits. “By voluntarily meeting these standards, the North Plainfield Police Department has shown itself willing to be held to a higher degree of professionalism, building trust between the Department and the people it serves”, the Chief said. Chief Parenti, Captain Brian Tufaro, and Lieutenant Joseph Mack attended a hearing in front of the Commission on Thursday December 14, 2006. After the hearing, the commission voted unanimously to award the North Plainfield Police Department Accreditation status. Mayor Janice G. Allen said North Plainfield’s motto is “A Proud Community” and today the community has another reason to feel that way. Chief Parenti thanked many people for making it possible for the Police Department to achieve accredited status. All the employees of the Police Department for seeing the value and complying with the standards; Prosecutor Wayne J. Forrest for his unwavering support of our Police Department and supplying the funding needed to complete the process; and Mayor Allen, the Borough Council and all community members who are such an essential part of our public safety puzzle.
